Glee Club, Cardiff Bay
Sun 11 Dec
Country night at the Glee Club you say? Well why not! Pop-rocker Lissie brings her solo acoustic tour to Cardiff with support from British artist Teddy Thompson, son of folk-rock musicians Richard and Linda.
On the back of a year that included two album releases, there’ll be plenty to celebrate at this intimate get-together. Lissie’s new live acoustic album, Live At Union Chapel, dropped in November and boasts a vocal performance of epic proportions. The 13-song, acoustic, stripped-back record was recorded at the haunting-looking Union Chapel in Islington last year, and includes a pretty raw cover of Joni Mitchell’s River. Leaving herself exposed throughout, the tone that’s projected is incredible. Pretty effortless and flawless.
Earlier this year Lissie’s latest studio album, My Wild West, gained a top 20 position in the UK album charts. A well-travelled individual, this is probably her most personal album to date; in homage to her life in California, to leaving for the Midwest a lot more confident in her abilities. A self-proclaimed representation of both a new beginning and a return to her roots.
As part of a 12-date tour, taking in venues the length and breadth of the UK, it looks like a potential corker of a show – one with supporting duties falling to Teddy Thompson, who’s musical pedigree can only add to what will be a compelling musical occasion.
