While the days are long and the nights are warm, this month is all about making the most of the outdoors – kicking off on the first weekend of July with the Tafwyl Festival at Cardiff Castle; a two day artistic, musical, cultural, and sporting celebration of the Welsh language. Frugal and eco-friendly foodies should make an effort seek out the fabulous Lia’s Kitchen, who will be running a demonstration of tasty and savvy Greece-meets-Wales dishes that make the most of the kitchen leftovers you might have otherwise wasted. It’s the big one on the weekend of the Fri 8 – Sun 10 July, when the Cardiff International Food & Drink Festival comes to town. The event, which takes place in Cardiff Bay’s Roald Dahl Plass, boasts over 100 local, national and international producers – take it as the perfect opportunity to stock up on farmhouse cheeses, artisan breads, handmade chocolates and specialist liqueurs for the rest of the summer! Wed 13 July sees the Vegan Pizza Company taking over the kitchen at Brewdog on Westgate Street for a one-night-only pop up. On Fri 15 July, the team at Waterloo Tea are continuing their tradition of local collaborations and have announced an extra special event that will take place within Wyndham Arcade. Combining The Dead Canary, Penylan Pantry, Brod, and Waterloo Tea, the event involves a 9-course collaborative extravaganza which will bring the picturesque Wyndham Arcade to life in the evening. Later in the month, Bristol’s newest export opens on Whitchurch Road in the form of Society Standard, a new, 100-cover bar and restaurant boasting a varied menu of comfort food classics and sharing plates. From Thurs 21 July, guests will be able to kick back with a craft beer in their industrial-styled interior, or hang out in the graffiti-covered beer garden.
