Emrys Roberts (Y Lolfa)
One of the biggest issues we face as a nation is a lack of our own media, and as a result Welsh history tends to get sidelined in favour of an English/British narrative. How many in Wales can answer when the Battle Of Hastings took place but don’t have a clue when the monumentally important Battle of Orewin Bridge was fought (1282 by the way)? Emrys Roberts admirably sets out to provide a short and speedy overview of Welsh history in this book, spanning from the pre-Roman period to the modern age. It does exactly what it sets out to do, and although Mr Roberts seems to be overly fond of exclamation marks at times, it still provides a solid foundation on which to build a more advanced understanding of Welsh history. Perfect for kids or those who are truly clueless about Welsh history and find longer history books terrifying.
