FOUNTAIN FINE ART
6-8 Morgan Arcade, Cardiff
words: ZOE BROOKES
Housing the finest British art and an assortment of exclusive South Walian pieces, Fountain Fine Art offers a diverse yet tried and tested formula. Founded in 1989 by owner Richard Braine, its first gallery was located in the picturesque hilltop settlement of Llandeilo. As its reputation has matured Fountain Fine Art has now expanded to the quaint paving-stoned passage of Morgan Arcade in Cardiff. Fountain’s new, open-planned gallery is whitewashed and billowy with its prized artwork stealing the show; the room is a sea of diversity from lush landscapes and sketchy miners to ceramic creatures and pop-art faces.
The gallery’s selection includes work from father and son Aneurin Jones and Meirion Jones showcasing their equally alluring observationalist art. Additionally, Sarah Noell’s intriguing sculptures of People In Boats, are propped up on a plethora of plinths within the display, and alongside these are the colourful pops of Liam O’Connor’s oil canvas Cardiffians and Sarah Richard’s abstract landscapes from Pierhead to Quay Street, acting as the perfect ingress for modern art. While Steven Allan Griffiths’ still life paintings like Plentitude V and Servility VII, paint a picture of musty libraries and textile heaven. Sallie Wakely’s animal sculptures are a nana’s dream, and not to be missed is big seller James Donovan, who tops-off the delightful mix with a series of acrylic canvas self-portraits full of symbolism and allegory. Fountain Fine Art is well worth a gander this Christmas. Admission: free. Info: 07717 582 109 / www.fountainfineart.com
