Amuzon @ Sin City, Swansea
Fri 6 Oct
If you ever have the chance to hop on a cheap intercity flight to Belfast do it. And make sure you go out to the rave when you’re there. The compact, Cardiff-sized city punches massively above its weight for clubs, particularly house and techno. Dance music has a special place there, being a unifying presence in some of the city’s more fragmented times, and in spite of presence of locally elected Democratic Unionist Party officials – seriously, if you thought clubs here chucked out early, try finding a place which goes beyond 2am in Belfast.
Even so, the country pumps out a comparatively huge amount of DJs and producers (the city’s most notable alumni include Bicep, Phil Kieran, David Holmes and Jet Project) and Ejeca is one of Belfast’s biggest and best. With ridiculously ma-hoos-sive tracks and remixes on the likes of Extended Play Cocoon and Poker Flat, he’s bringing his unashamedly rave-indebted sound to Sin City, which boasts an increasingly eclectic and impressive series of events. Able local support comes from Ben From Wales (one of the better DJ monickers we’ve heard for a while), Leroy, Mzungu, Jeremy and Polymer. This is a night which promises to be chunkier than a lorry load of Yorkie bar.
