Clwb Ifor Bach, Cardiff
Sat 26 Aug
If you’ve never ended up Clwb on a Saturday night, perhaps one or two white wine spritzers far gone, pulling shapes to an eclectic mix of pop and electronic music old and new, can you really and truly say you’ve lived in Cardiff?
No, says this page, and if you disagree with us you can go tickle. It’s a rite of passage, a time-honoured tradition, right up there with warm Welsh cakes from the market or slightly puzzled conversations with Ninjah outside Maccy D’s. Dirty Pop, Cardiff’s longest running Saturday night, turns nine this September, which puts it in stately middle-age in club years. But slowing down? They wouldn’t have a bit of it.
Not content with nearly a decade gleeful dancefloor iconoclasm, this Pride weekend sees the team welcome Don’t Tell Your Mother, one of Bristol’s finest LGBTQ events, for a rip-roaring night of disco dancing. Dirty Pop’s famous for its strong mixed vibe, and this promises to be a raucous one. DJs include Dirty Pop mainstays Ian and Esyllt [pictured], as well as DTYM’s Christopher Morgan, Nic Davies and Mother & Auntie. Pride weekend usually means you’re spoilt for choice for late-night shenanigans, but given that Clwb’s usually roadblocked on a Saturday at most times of year, getting your tickets in advance might be a good idea… oh, and just don’t request Sean Paul.
