Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff Bay
Mon 25 – Sat 30 July
If you haven’t already seen Chicago, then you must have been living under a rock in the Outer Hebrides. For one week only, the award-winning musical is back in all its 1920s Windy City glory for another run in Cardiff. The play is based on the real life events in the US during the prohibition of alcohol. Nightclub singer Roxie Hart and her prison rival, Velma Kelly, have been convicted of murdering their lovers, and with the help of their sleazy lawyer, Billy Flyn, the girls fight to stay off death row. Expect mayhem, murder, greed, corruption, exploitation, adultery and treachery…and all that jazz. The impressive score includes hits Razzle Dazzle, When You’re Good To Mama, and Me And My Baby. Chicago is a musical you’ll remember for all the right reasons; the numbers are infectious, the dancing energetic and the wicked characters create an all round block party atmosphere – you can’t knock sin and debauchery for making good entertainment.
This production has an impressive cast and stars Eastenders’ John Partridge as Billy, Coronation Streets’ Hayley Tamaddon as Roxie and for Thursday to Saturday only X Factor winner and real life prison warden Sam Bailey is Matron ‘Mama’ Morton. If you haven’t yet seen this raucous stage event, then what are you waiting for?
Tickets: £10.50 – £52.50. Info: 029 2063 6464 / www.wmc.org.uk
