Broken Peace
words: Holly Anderson
Rhonda Cynon Taf Cultral Services are joining forces with award-winning singer/songwriter Martyn Joseph to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of the Tonypandy riots of 1910 this month. The production, which is entitled Broken Peace, is set to be an engaging and compelling live performance that will leave you wanting to know more. The event is being held in The Park & Dare Theatre on Tue 2 and Wed 3 Nov. The focus of the performance is on the people who struggled through the hard times that led up to the Tonypandy riots and how their experiences affect those who live in the Welsh Valleys today.
The performance is a unique insight into the thoughts, fears, emotions and undeniable strength of the people of those involved in the riots. The production is told through songs written especially for the show by Martyn Joseph. He shall be joined on stage by pupils from local schools, Tonypandy Community College and Ysgol Gyfun Y Cymer. They will be contributing compositions and musical accompaniment while being led by MD Andrew Griffiths. The children have decided to get involved after encouragement from Martyn at workshops which he ran within the college and school.
But this is not all the audience have to look forward too. Martyn will enthral the audience with a set of his most popular titles from his thirty years in the industry. His fusion of Springsteen, Knopfler and Dave Matthews is a stripped back version of Celtic and Folk which will have you standing on your feet. So whether you’re a folk lover or a history fanatic, don’t miss out on an entertaining, factual and emotional production.
