It’s become a tradition for the Wales Millennium Centre to host a big production in December. Miss Saigon was the first large-scale musical to be staged at the then-newly-opened WMC back in 2005, now the new touring production premieres in Cardiff for the duration of December, and it’s sure to be a heart-rending showstopper, with its current run proving every bit as successful as previous ones. Closer to the festive side of things is The Bear, in WMC’s Weston Studio. Based on a storybook by Raymond Briggs – creator of The Snowman – this is a family-friendly piece featuring dazzling puppetry which asks that all-important question: what might it be like to look after a polar bear? It’s sure to be heart-warming enough to provide a buffer against the outdoors, and an exciting way for the kids to pass the time during the Christmas holidays.
Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff. Until Sat 6 Jan, tickets: £25 (Miss Saigon). Tues 12 – Sun 31 Dec, tickets: £10 (The Bear). Info: 029 2063 6464 / www.wmc.org.uk
