2016 marks the fifth election for seats in the National Assembly for Wales and it looks to be an interesting contest. Labour, Plaid Cymru, the Conservatives, the Liberal Democrats, the Greens and UKIP battle it out to win their share of the 60 seats in the Senedd. Each registered voter is asked to vote twice: one for their constituency in a first past the post system (to decide 40 AMs), and one for their region (to allocate a further 20 AMs). The AMs then meet in the Assembly to make laws and policy regarding devolved areas, which include agriculture, culture, economic development, education, environment, health, housing, social welfare and the Welsh language. If you want a say in the way your country is run then make sure that you get out and vote. If you don’t, you have no right to complain afterwards, and we all know how much we love doing that.
