METROID: SAMUS RETURNS ****

Nintendo, Nintendo 3DS

More of a reimagining than a remake of the 1991 classic Metroid II: Return of Samus, Metroid: Samus Returns feels like a classic Metroid game, back to its roots as a side-scrolling guns blazing action adventure game. The 3D Metroid Prime series is great fun, but it’s great to see the series rediscover itself. As Samus Aran, you explore the biggest map yet in a huge cavern and solve puzzles on your way to collect a bounty. It looks great, and with new moves and good depth, it’s hours of fun. LOB

XCOM 2: WAR OF THE CHOSEN ****

Firakis Games, PC, PS4, Xbox One

An expansion pack to the 2016 turn-based tactics sci-fi game XCOM 2, War of the Chosen is a breath of fresh air, making changes to the campaign structure, along with new enemies, characters, twists and tactics. It adds a lot to an already great game that will definitely help those who feel they’ve played it to its limit. The Chosen, elite alien warriors, have been tasted to defeat XCOM – Earth’s defenders – and it’s your job to defeat them. Overall, a great addition to the series. LOB
