The New Theatre, Cardiff
Mon 16 May
Forget straining for ideas for what you can get up to this month, we’ve got you covered. Now, you’ve heard of the phrase “Two heads are better than one”, right? Well, somebody obviously thinks four heads are better than two, because The All Star Stand up Tour featuring four of the UK’s biggest comedians is coming to Cardiff’s very own New Theatre this May- and all star isn’t an overstatement at all. Four big-time comics unite and take to the stage, which isn’t alien to them – these comedy geniuses aren’t a couple of novices, they have all individually mastered the art of comedy. With the likes of double Sony award winning and Mock the Week star Gary Delany, Pete Firman from BBC 1’s The Magicians and poster boy for British comedy magic, Jarred Christmas who’s quick witted Kiwi comedy won him the Chortle Comedy’s best compère award, and finally Never Mind the Buzzcocks legendary unbeaten team captain Sean Hughes.
They’re all kind of a big deal. All being brilliant comics in their own right, they each have their own tours to be getting on with – all of which can be seen on their website- but they also decided to do a tour all together, making the comedy four times funnier. Maybe four heads are better than two. We know comedy is in high demand in Cardiff, that’s why there’s so much going on; from locals trying to make their own way in the line of stand up comedy to fully-grown professionals like these four doing world class tours and more. Some may be lucky enough to go to see stand up acts a couple times of year, but how many of us are going to be able to see four? Let alone in one night. Now, the humour isn’t for the faint hearted – so if you’re easily offended I’d imagine you’ll have to take the show with a pinch of salt. The flippant humour will most certainly be tongue-in-cheek, with stand-up being as unpredictable as it is, who knows what to expect. You’ve been warned!
