Aberystwyth Arts Centre, Aberystwyth
Until Tue 16 Jan
The four month long exhibition will be on display across two of the art gallery’s spaces, and is composed of creations that will be exploring three alternate themes: Wales and Legends, Folk and Fairytales and Mythology. Amongst the exhibition, featured art will include important works from internationally renowned artists such as David Hockney and Bedwyr Williams (Eisteddford Gold Medal winner, two time representative of Wales at the Venice Biennale and shortlist for the Artes Mundi prize 2017), as well as many other artists such as Iwan Lewis, Rob Davies and Keith Vaughn.
The exhibition will also feature a large puppet from the Small World Theatre in Cardigan, a 25-foot tall (7.62 metres) royal giant Bendigeidfran from Welsh mythology, with stories originating of him from the 14th or 15th century. Also known as Brân the Blessed, he was said to be King of Britain and appeared in several of the Welsh Triads. Bendigeidfran will be a major focal point of the Hanes: Tales, Stories, Legends and Myths exhibition, and be inhabiting the main gallery space throughout. Also included is an animation of shadow puppets which will be developed in the space with local groups before being added into the exhibition.
