Britain From Above is a unique exhibition from The Aerofilms Collection that has captured the time between 1919 and 2006 and condensed it to over one million aerial photographs, allowing attendees to see snippets of time throughout history. The story of Aerofilms Ltd began in London, fascinated with advances in aeroplane engineering, veterans of the First World War Claude Grahame-White and Francis Lewis Wills founded the company in 1919. Thanks to a grant from the English Heritage the Britain From Above project has been made possible. Over four years the project has conserved over 95,000 of the oldest photographs from the original Aerofilms collection. The exhibition has now been made available to see in Wales, at the Aberystwyth Art Centre. Some of the older archived snapshots are caught from over Wales, of familiar places in an unfamiliar time to attendees, but have been captured in time. The exhibition will show spectators how change has impacted Britain, as the project holds the largest collection of aerial photographs taken prior to 1939. The Britain From Above is a group dedicated to British history and this exhibition is just one from a movement that features all over the United Kingdom. Their website allows people from one of the areas featured, in this case Aberystwyth, to document their own recollections and knowledge of the time the photograph was taken with the rest of the history enthusiasts.
